Nostalgia
‘The handwriting of the past, written down, is even more nostalgic when I recall it, as if it were the time of spring.’

Autumn of the following year at Goshinkoin Miyuki
‘Autumn has come, and whether or not people have disappeared altogether, those who parted cannot even be heard now.’

This is said to be a fragment of the Fushimi Emperor's Gosho, which was written down as a compilation of the songs sung by Emperor Fushimi. This text is called ‘Hirosawa-kiri,’ and it is believed to be a draft of the songbook ‘Fushimi-in-oji,’ which was compiled by Emperor Fushimi himself but was not completed, and was an unfinished draft in his later years. The origin of the name ‘Hirosawa-kiri’ cannot be traced, but from ancient times it has been revered as ‘Hirosawa-kiri’ for its excellent waka and handwriting, and has attracted a great deal of popularity and has been collected in many places. Fushimiin was one of the emperors during the Kamakura period when the two reigns were established, and Emperor Fushimi, the ninety-second emperor of the Jomeiin reign, lived in this period.
